The brief involved designing a three bedroom home with two separate living areas in the new subdivision of Anselmi Ridge. The semi-retired couple were building their last home and were after a classical style home with some hints of modernism as per the covenants of the subdivision.
We were asked to allow for separate bedrooms on the first floor taking advantage of the valley views with a master bedroom on the ground floor for when the stairs become impractical.
The challenge involved setting the home into a sloping 600m2 site while achieving flat accessible portions of land - a must for a couple entering their retirement years. With a combination of stepped levels with the home and the use of retaining walls built into the landscape, we were able to achieve the outcome desired.
The home was designed to work with sloping nature of the site, optimising views of the valley and lake.
The ground floor provides for master bedroom, study and main living area with pergola structures framing the views and providing shelter for the north facing outdoor living area. Electronic adjustable louvres have been incorporated for additional protection from the elements. The first floor contains two master bedrooms with separate wardrobe and shared bathroom.
The classical style of the home with weatherboards, plaster and dormers has created a timeless building that interacts with the scale and proportions of the neighbouring contemporary homes.
